Ireland is the first EU country to return to the coronavirus lockdown. The country drastically tightens its measures in the fight against the corona pandemic. Next Wednesday the highest of five stages will come into force, the Irish government announced on Monday. Visitors from another households will no longer be allowed indoors, pubs and restaurants will only be allowed to offer food as a delivery service, but schools will remain open. The measures apply until December 1.

Prime Minister Michael Martin also imposed a curfew. “Everyone in the country is asked to stay at home,” Martin said in a television address. People are now only allowed to move within a radius of five kilometers of their place of residence.

According to the Irish Ministry of Health, 1031 people were last infected with the corona virus within 24 hours. A total of almost 51,000 infections have been registered in Ireland to date. The country has almost five million inhabitants.
